Assignment: Designing a hybrid pendant lamp

Hollands Licht works with multiple designers, to create unique lighting concepts. "We design and produce 100% in the Netherlands. Our first collaboration with Basten Leijh involved the design of a hybrid pendant lamp, where the design had to be simple in the base and suitable to expand into a whole family of lamps in the same design." The emphasis was on being able to use the lighting for both business and residential purposes, with high functionality and a subtle design. "A desire of Hollands Licht was to design the lamp in such a way that it would not glare."

The end result became a hybrid, modular pendant lamp, with an understated look, minimalist in design with great attention to detailing and proportions. The modular structure of this lamp makes the design suitable to serve as the basis for an entire family of lighting with this design.

Why did you choose Basten Leijh?
"I had been familiar with his work for some time. Basten Leijh approached us with a technical concept for our design lighting, which appealed enormously. In the conversation that followed, it quickly became clear that Basten fully understood our wishes. Thanks to our cooperation, the new lighting concept has become a total transformation, exactly as we like it and expandable. Basten Leijh's strength is his ability to translate wishes into something tangible. He pays particular attention to detail, remains positively involved throughout the process and strives for perfection. We see this reflected in subtle adjustments he made to the design, not visible to the layman, but with a positive impact on the final product."

Rob Cornelissen concludes that working with Basten Leijh is working in partnership. "He worked as an integral part of our company, from design phase to launch of the final product."
