lune

Company name: Lune (A sister company of Brink Industrial)
Activity: Development and production of sustainable waste collection equipment
Website: www.lune360.co.uk
Speaker: Wido van den Bosch
Assignment: Designing a series of waste collection products for Lune

Lune makes waste collection products that are beautifully designed and beautiful to look at. They are functional and user friendly. Ergonomics, choice of materials, production processes and sustainability of the design are taken into account. This results in designs that not only meet expectations, but are also cost-effective, environmentally friendly and circular. "Basten Leijh once developed 'The Tulip,' a beautiful design trash can, for one of our clients. We produced it for our client. That's how we know Basten Leijh. I myself have long been enamored with Basten's furniture designs. When a designer left our company, it was a great opportunity to strengthen our ties with Basten Leijh and switch. We want to remain attractive with our designs by regularly introducing a new product line. For example, Basten designed for our waste collection label 'Lune', which is produced by our sister company Brink Industrial, and we are now working on the Finn Wave and Finn Villa series."

Lune wants to seek out a new segment: the SME. A piece of market expansion where Basten Leijh's experience in furniture design comes in perfectly. "A new trash can for this segment must technically meet the requirements of the customer and the end user. SMEs have different requirements for a trash can than large corporations. We started the design process together with Brink Industrial, with Basten being part of our team. As a metal company, Brink Industrial has its own engineering and sales. As director of Lune, I was also involved in this project myself. Now we combine our engineering knowledge with Basten's insights and design strength. The process is intensive and good. Basten knows very well how to convert our technical wishes and requirements into a workable design. We pull together, with the result that everything becomes feasible, both technically and financially."

Why did you choose Basten Leijh?
"Because Basten participates as a team member and is present at all team meetings, it creates a valuable think tank. We scrutinize samples together and look for areas for improvement together. Basten understands the technical challenges we face. As far as I am concerned, design determines the process. In such a process, there are always challenges with regard to manufacturability. By choosing Basten Leijh, we know that everything will turn out well, because he never takes the easiest route, but the best route. He guards the design, but gives engineering enough room to make minor technical adjustments. Thanks to Basten on our team, we can accelerate, in an efficient way. That gives us an excellent 'time to market' to get on with it."

Wido van den Bosch concludes that working with Basten Leijh as an external designer who still collaborates 'in house' works well for Lune. "We are happy to have him on our team."
